Oceanside, OR is the first beach I ever visited in my life and is still by far my favorite on the Oregon Coast. The rocky outcroppings, great beachcombing, and perfect sunset photo ops, and years of nostalgia definitely keep it at the top of my list. The passageway through the cliff to reach “tunnel beach,” was obscured for most of my childhood by a rockslide, making the far beach an extra rare and usually private low tide adventure. I have several memories of racing the waves around or scrambling over the rocky point at low tide with my parents, grandparents, and usually a dog or two. While public access is once again open through the tunnel, the far beach still feels kind of primitive and wild which makes me love it extra.

When I saw that this past Friday’s weather forecast called for clear skies, warm-ish weather, (it’s March, so saying it’s “warm” is a little misleading), and a low tide that coincided perfectly with the sunset, I knew we had to go. Declaring it a “field trip” day, I loaded kids, dog, and my 100-pound-backpack-of-camera-gear that I only used a small portion of, and we headed for the coast!

It was a sunny day, but as I mentioned earlier, was still a tad chilly. While most parents have those fancy beach tents for their precious children, I had the kids build character and a rock wall to break the wind and keep warm. Games of tag, football, frisbee, and searching for shells and agates also helped maintain proper core body temperature. Don’t they look thrilled!?!

Now we’re getting into the good stuff. I live for great sunsets (and sunrises). Many of these prints are for sale in my shop; I will link the photos there for anyone interested in buying a print!
